MY BACKGROUND

Hi, I’m Dr. Brita DeStefano, board certified pediatric physical therapist and owner of Progress Through Play. After finishing my education and training, I spent several years working in traditional pediatric treatment settings including acute care, sub-acute rehabilitation centers, school-based, outpatient clinics, and most recently, early intervention. I also have a background as a pre-professional ballet dancer and have taught dance classes for children with special needs. Throughout my career as a pediatric PT I have become increasingly passionate about serving infants and toddlers and helping to establish the early building blocks of motor development. I am passionate about giving parents peace of mind about their children’s motor development and helping them to form deeper connections with their little ones through play.

After the birth of my first child in 2014, I first started to notice a gap in the care provided to babies and toddlers and the stress and anxiety it was causing parents. With my first child we struggled with a severe tongue tie, reflux, breastfeeding issues and more. I found myself crying in the pediatrician’s office more times than I’d like to admit. After returning to work I started hearing similar stories of struggles from my patients. I knew there had to be a better way. Combining my experiences as a parent and armed with my many years of work in pediatric PT, Progress Through Play was born. I specifically now specialize in torticollis, tummy time, tongue tie, head shape and milestones for babies from birth through walking.

  • Brita is amazing! She is so great with babies/children and has a wide range of knowledge in helping them develop properly. We needed assistance in our babies head shape and she gave us exercises and sleeping tips to help his head round out. She also helped him enjoy tummy-time more and how to properly roll/move for each month of his life. It definitely worked since he started crawling at 7 months and his head shape looks great! Really glad we started around the 3 month mark. He also had a tongue tie and Brita was very helpful in the overall body work that he needed. Highly recommend!

  • Dr. Brita is amazing! She is so good with my son and listens to his cues while also encouraging growth through helping him with a variety of movements. She has such a peaceful and kind way of interacting with others especially little ones and always puts my son and me at ease. She is also very knowledgeable and answers all my questions. I highly recommend her for your children needing PT or help healing from oral ties.

  • I don't even know where to start! Dr. Brita is a gem and expert in the therapy space. We found Dr. Brita when my son was 6 weeks old and had been suffering from torticollis and plagiocephaly. She quickly helped create results for my son and allowed him to feel better in his body. In addition, she was there for me as a parent - compassionate, intentional, and and truly listened. She continues to be a resource for us to follow up as needed. We are so grateful for you, Dr. Brita!

  • Dr. Brita is one of a kind! We started coming to her with our 4 week old baby girl and she helped turn our life around. She helped us prepare for her tongue tie release and set us up with a great team for the healing process after. We love her and are forever thankful! We will continue seeing her for all of our girls needs in the future❤️ Also her tongue tie support group has helped myself and so many other mamas out there get the answers they need and make friends along the way!

  • We worked with Brita for my 3 month olds head tilt and other general concerns I had with my daughter. Brita is fabulous - she is disarming, listens with intent, and gives excellent care. I trust Brita both as a parent, and an IBCLC - I often refer families to Brita for her expertise. If you are looking for specialized PT care for your baby with a collaborative approach, Progress through Play is where you want to be!

  • Brita is the best. My 2 month old son adored her from day one and her game-plan from the first visit set us up for success. She provided measurements for his Plagiocephaly each week so we could see progress beyond just how much happier he was in his body overall. Every visit was progressively better than the one before and after about 8 weeks we were ready to go it alone. She gave us a great plan to continue the work on our own and still checks in on us. I am beyond grateful to have met Brita and our family is better because of it.

THE PTP Approach

We provide evidence-based care and physical therapy, but working with Progress Through Play is different from a traditional physical therapy clinic. Our approach is holistic and very personalized. Each appointment is an hour. There are no long wait times. There is no “qualifying for services” as we believe anyone with questions about their child’s development should be able to get support.

We believe babies deserve to feel good in their bodies. We enjoy playing detective to help determine the reason for a baby's struggles. And we believe that families are an integral part of helping their babies reach their developmental goals. Sessions with us are always focused on a baby’s strengths and we will use activities that they are motivated by to achieve goals. We always spend time explaining the "why" behind what we do. We think families deserve to know the exact reasoning for all of our recommendations. We love teaching and don't want parents to ever need to google anything when we're working together. Appointments with us help decrease a parent’s worries, concerns, and stress level.

Children learn through movement and they deserve to feel good doing it! And parents deserve to feel supported and validated when they have concerns about their child's development.
